Impromptu Trip

The morning after Darcy's party, we drove to Portland to see my brother's family because they had a new baby. We wanted to go the weekend of Halloween because Calvin is being blessed on Nov 1, but with the whole licensing thing we took the trip earlier. We left at 5:45 am and drove though some beautiful scenery to get there. Lake Shasta and Clamath Lake areas were just gorgeous. We are making plans to camp there next summer. We have been very anti-fast food so we packed lunches and stopped at a cute rest stop. Man, what a difference it made not eating fast food. A lot of time we feel sick on vacations. This trip was good and I think that was a factor.

So we got to Portland in the afternoon and before we went to Greg's house we stopped for gas. It is so weird that it is cheaper in Oregon and it is Full Service. When exiting the gas station AJ started going the wrong way on a one way street. Luckily the cars were stopped at a light and they all started honking to warn us. That happens a lot according to my brother. Then we were welcomed by a crazy man on the street who walked right up to our car and yelled two words over and over that start with f and a. We were freak out and locked the doors and turned the radio on really loud. When the redlight we were stopped at finally turned green and we got a little ways down the road, Jeff asked, "What was he talking about fighter S?" Thank goodness for childhood innocense. We told him he must really like fighter jets. Especially S fighters.

Then we got to my brothers house and met their new baby. He is adorable. But like a normal one month old didn't do much. His older brother Marty has grown a lot and it was fun to watch the kids all play together. We went to their cute new park and the kids were all very brave climbing and sliding. Darcy would not give up her cup for anything. She climbed the rock steps and would not put it down. Marty joined right in with the big kids and climbed, cruised, and slid down with Jeff and Darcy. He is super cute.

That night we played a fun game, but AJ fell asleep. Who could blame the guy. He worked until 10 the night before and drove almost the whole 10 hours by himself.

We went to church in the morning and had a nice early dinner with the missionaries too. There are pictures of our trip in the gallery. They tell a funny story. Here is the best one.
